Picture the evening before your wedding. The rehearsal has wrapped, or there was no rehearsal at all, and the light is going soft. Maybe the evening holds a long table of your closest people telling the stories they have saved for years. Maybe it holds a loose, happy room where everyone who traveled finally says hello.

There is a moment I watch for at every reception. The portraits are done, [cocktail hour](https://nuptials.blog/post/how-long-should-cocktail-hour-be) has wound down, you have been introduced, and you finally sit down for the first time all day. Who is beside you in that chair decides what the next hour feels like: twenty quiet minutes together, or a dinner party in full voice.
Satin, mikado, crepe, chiffon, tulle, and lace, sorted by how they hold shape, photograph, crease, and move from aisle to dance floor.
Most first dances land at two to three minutes. Edit the song. Past four minutes only works when the extra time has a job.
No. Guests keep what they can eat or use. If the only option is a cheap trinket, skip them and spend the money on the evening.
No. Print them when the service is long, unfamiliar, or full of names guests will not know. A short civil ceremony can skip the paper.
